OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF THE CHANROBLES BAR REVIEW DIRECTOR ON THE ARREST OF IRVIN D. JANSALIN

ChanRobles Internet Bar Review is pleased to announce that the National Bureau of Investigation - Technical Intelligence Division (NBI - TID) has just apprehended the principal suspect in an illicit scheme of downloading our lecture videos and distributing the same through the Internet and mobile phones.  The suspect, Irvin D. Jansalin, a law graduate of the Philippine Law School supposedly reviewing for the bar, created a webpage in a local buy and sell website, sulit.com, under the banner "ChanRobles Offline Bar Review" to advertise his illicit trade. He then transacted business and accepted orders and payments through his mobile phone.

In cooperation with ChanRobles technical officers, the NBI-TID was able to track and locate Mr. Jansalin's residence in Sampaloc, Manila. On the basis of a search warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court of Manila, the NBI-TID raided Jansalin's lair where computers, mobile phones and other electronic devices evidencing his illicit trade were seized.

Mr. Jansalin attempted to evade arrest by jumping from the roof deck of his second floor rented room, sustaining multiple injuries on his head, hands and lower limbs. When arrested by the NBI after his fatal leap, Mr. Jansalin readily admitted to his crimes. Mr. Jansalin was brought to a local hospital where he underwent emergency medical treatment.

Mr. Jansalin and his cohorts will be charged with hacking and piracy or unauthorized copying, distribution and dissemination of copyrighted or protected materials through the use of a telecommunication network under Section 33 (a) and (b) of the E-Commerce Act of 2000 (RA No. 8792) and infringement of trademark and/or copyright materials under Sections 216 and 217 of the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines (RA No. 8293).

To serve as an example against those similarly inclined, ChanRobles shall prosecute Mr. Jansalin to the fullest extent allowed by law. ChanRobles shall likewise ask the Supreme Court to bar Mr. Jansalin from ever being admitted to the practice of law.
