PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1643 -
AMENDING REPUBLIC ACT NO. 95, AS AMENDED BY REPUBLIC ACT NO. 855 AND
REPUBLIC ACT NO. 6373 AND FURTHER AMENDED BY PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO.
1264

| WHEREAS,
under Section 6 sub-section a of Presidential Decree No. 1264, the term
of office of all members of the Board of Governors of the Philippine
National Red Cross shall be four years and any member of said board who
has served two consecutive full terms of four years each or a total of
eight years becomes ineligible for membership in said board for at
least two years; WHEREAS, the Philippine National Red Cross is a member of the League of Red Cross Societies, the International Federation of the National Red Cross, Red Crescent and Red Lion and Sun Societies, which are among the most prestigious international organizations in the world; WHEREAS, as a member of these organizations, the Philippine National Red Cross is actively participating in the deliberations of their governing bodies, commissions and advisory committees to encourage, facilitate and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by the National Societies with a view to the prevention and alleviation of human suffering; WHEREFORE, it is the best interest of the Philippine National Red Cross and of the Filipino nation to provide for continuity in the term of office of the members of the Board of Governors to enable them to work as a cohesive team in pursuing their various projects and missions including their long range and far reaching programs. NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution, do hereby order and decree as part of the law of the land, the following: Section 1. Section 6, sub-section a, Presidential Decree No. 1264, is hereby amended to read as follows: "a. The term of office of all members of the Board shall be four years, including those appointed by the President of the Philippines, renewable at the pleasure of the appointing power or elective bodies." DONE in the City of Manila, this 1st day of October, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and seventy-nine. |
