PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1664-A -
EMPOWERING THE MEMBERS OF THE BATASANG PAMBANSA AND MEMBERS OF THE
SANGGUNIANG PAMPOOK (REGIONAL ASSEMBLY) TO ADMINISTER OATHS OF OFFICE
TO ELECTIVE PUBLIC OFFICIALS

| WHEREAS,
the members of the defunct Congress of the Philippines were
specifically empowered by law to administer oaths of office to elective
public officials; WHEREAS, there is no law similarly granting the authority to administer oaths of office to members of the Batasang Pambansa; WHEREAS, in recognition of the importance of the position of the members of the Batasang Pambansa as well as members of the Sangguniang Pampook (Regional Assembly) in the parliamentary form of government adopted in the new Constitution, it is deemed fitting and proper to empower members of the two legislative bodies to administer oaths of office to elective public officials. NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution, do hereby order and decree as follows: Section 1. Members of the Batasang Pambansa and members of the Sangguniang Pampook (Regional Assembly) are hereby empowered to administer oaths of office to elective public officials. Section 2. This decree shall take effect immediately. Done in the City of Manila, this 21st day of January, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and eighty. |
