REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8009

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8009 - AN ACT CONVERTING THE LEYTE NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF VILLABA, PROVINCE OF LEYTE, INTO A COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TO BE KNOWN AS THE LEYTE NATIONAL COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR.



Section 1.    The Leyte National Agricultural College in the Municipality of Villaba, Province of Leyte, is hereby converted into a college of agriculture, science and technology to be known as the Leyte National College of Agriculture, Science and Technology.

Sec. 2.    In addition to its present secondary, post-secondary and degree curricular offerings, the Leyte National College of Agriculture, Science and Technology shall offer undergraduate courses in the fields of industrial education and technology, engineering, arts and sciences, forestry, veterinary, two-year technician courses in trade and agriculture, and such other short-term occupational courses as may be necessary to meet local and national needs for trained manpower.

Sec. 3.    It shall grant proficiency certificates in non-degree courses and diplomas to degrees offered.

Sec. 4.    The College shall be under the direct supervision of the Commission on Higher Education and shall be headed by a vocational college superintendent.

Sec. 5.    The Commission on Higher Education shall take the necessary steps for the immediate operationalization of the Leyte National College of Agriculture, Science and Technology and the implementation of the provisions of this Act.

Sec. 6.    The amount necessary to carry out the provisions of this Act shall be charged against the current year's appropriations of the Leyte National Agriculture College.  Thereafter, such sums as may be necessary for its operation and maintenance shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.

Sec. 7.    All laws, decrees, executive orders, rules, regulations and other issuances, or parts thereof, which are inconsistent with the provisions of this Act are hereby repealed, amended or modified accordingly.

Sec. 8.    This Act shall take effect upon its approval.

(Note:  Lapsed into law on May 25, 1995 without the signature of the President, in accordance with Article VI, Section 27 (1) of the Constitution.)
