Syllabus

The terms "beyond seas" in the saving clause of a statute of limitations are to be construed as equivalent to without the limits of the state where the statute is enacted.

Five years bona fide possession of a slave constitutes a title by the laws of Virginia upon which the possessor may recover in detinue, and this title may be set up by the vendee of such possessor in the courts of Tennessee as a defense to a suit brought by a third party in those courts.
