AN ACT TO AMEND ACT NUMBERED ONE
THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND SEVENTY ENTITLED, "AN ACT FOR THE PURPOSE OF FOUNDING A
UNIVERSITY FOR THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS, GIVING IT CORPORATE EXISTENCE,
PROVIDING FOR A BOARD OF REGENTS, DEFINING THE BOARD'S RESPONSIBILITIES
AND DUTIES, PROVIDING HIGHER AND PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTION, AND FOR
OTHER PURPOSES," AS AMENDED BY ELIMINATING THE PROVISIONS
EXCLUDING THE ALUMNI OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES AMONG PERSONS
WHO MAY BE CONFERRED HONORARY DEGREES BY THE UNIVERSITY
Section 1. Paragraph (c) of section six of Act Numbered One
thousand and eight hundred and seventy, as amended, is further amended
to read as follows:
"Sec.
6. The Board of Regents shall have the following
powers and duties, in addition to its general powers of administration
and the exercise of the powers of the corporation:
"(c)
To confer the usual honorary degrees upon persons in recognition of
learning, statesmanship, or eminence in literature, science, or art:
Provided, That such degrees shall not be conferred in consideration of
the payment of money or other valuable consideration;"
Sec. 2. This
Act shall take effect upon its approval.
