RE:FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO THE CITY OF MARIKINA
EN BANC
Gentlemen:
Quoted hereunder, for your information, is a resolution of this Court dated 15 OCT 2002.
A.M. No. 01-6-05-SC(Re: Financial Assistance to the City of Marikina In the Amount of Twenty Million Pesos.)
The Court Resolves to (a) NOTE the Memorandum dated 3 September 2002 of the Committee on Halls of Justice, and (b) ADOPT the Option 4 recommended therein,, which reads as follows:
OPTION 4 - Status quo.The Court retains ownership of the old HOJ building and lot. Instead of giving the P20 million to Marikina, the amount could Instead be used to renovate and Improve the old HOJ building and to purchase additional office furniture and equipment .
for the following reasons -
(1) This Court retains ownership of the old Hall of Justice and the land where it stands at no cost. If the Court adopts the other options, the Court would be divested of such valuable property.
(2) Under the other options, the Court will have to spend a huge amount of money to gain co-ownership and much more to acquire full ownership over said property. Even if the Court were to acquire full ownership, the cloud over its title still remains.
(3) The amount of Thirty Seven Million Pesos would still be needed to complete the construction of the new building. This will not even include the expenses for furniture, equipment and other fixtures needed. On the other hand, the Twenty Million Pesos originally set aside for Marikina is sufficient to fund the rehabilitation of the old Hall of Justice."
